On Saturday, November 15, five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) confirmed their list of retentions as well as released players. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) setting November 15 as the deadline
date for the franchises to announce their retentions, one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history confirmed the list. While the MI young recruit in Arjun Tendulkar was traded to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the franchise also released some big names in Reece Topley, Lizaad Williams, among others.
Apart from it, the Mumbai-based outfit retained their core group, involving former skipper Rohit Sharma, India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder and skipper Hardik Pandya, star pacers in Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, among others. But in a surprising move, the franchise let go off Vignesh Puthur, who proved crucial last season for them apart from some impressive performances in the trails.
MI likely to support Vignesh Puther’s rehab despite releasing him ahead of IPL 2026 auction
While they might look to secure him at the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled to be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, several reports have claimed that the franchise aims to continue supporting him in his rehabilitation. It is to be noted that Puthur is currently recovering from an injury he sustained during the Kerala Cricket League. Sources close to the development told IANS that the franchise will continue to support his rehab despite releasing him.
“Vignesh is recovering from an injury sustained in Kerala Cricket League, and MI will be continuing to support him in his rehab despite releasing him ahead of IPL 2026 auction, to be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi,” the sources informed. Notably, Puthur was ruled out of IPL 2025 due to bone stress reactions in both shins and was replaced by Raghu Sharma for the remainder of the season.
