Brazilian footballer Oscar, who is an ex-Chelsea star, got discharged from the Einstein Hospital Israelita in Sao Paulo on Sunday, November 16 after being admitted due to a heart issue earlier in the same
week. The 34-year-old was preparing for the new Brasileiro season at Sao Paulo FC’s training centre on Tuesday but during his physical tests, he became unwell and got admitted to the hospital.
In their official statement on the matter, Sao Paulo FC stated that Oscar was “stable and clinically well” during his stay at the hospital in the city over the past few days. They also wrote, “Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed that the player experienced an episode of vasovagal syncope”, which is known to be a common type of fainting, and it happens due to sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure, as reported by BBC Sport.
Oscar will follow a medical rest programme for the next few days on the road to recovery
After being discharged from the Einstein Hospital Israelita on Sunday, he is expected to “now follow a medical rest programme for the next few days”, and it is going to give him the best chance to get fit for the new domestic season for Sao Paulo FC in Brazil. Moreover, the Brazilian midfielder, who was a part of the tough 7-1 loss at home in the FIFA World Cup 2014 semi-final to Germany, made his return to the boyhood club last year.
He is currently on a three-year deal with Sao Paulo FC until 2027 after playing for eight long years in China for Shanghai Port which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic as well. Before signing with the Chinese club in the middle of the 2016-17 season, Oscar was one of the biggest parts of Chelsea FC, winning the Premier League title twice apart from clinching one UEFA Europa League and the League Cup title each.
The last international match of Oscar came in 2015 and thus far, he has scored 12 goals in 48 appearances for Brazil including a consolation one on that fateful night in Belo Horizonte over 11 years ago.
