The Lankans, who entered the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after topping the Group B standings, first lost to Bangladesh, followed by a five-wicket defeat against Pakistan on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.
With two consecutive defeats, the Sri Lanka side are now on the brink of elimination from the tournament with only one match left for them. Notably, the team from the island nation are scheduled to play defending champions, India in their final Super Four fixture, set to be held on Friday, September 26 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

But as the tournament
progresses, the biggest question which currently arises is can Sri Lanka still qualify for the final? However, the 2022 champions are on the brink of an exit as they sit at the fourth place in the Super Four standings with zero points and a negative net run rate and their qualification now not just remain in their hand.

In order to see them play the summit clash on September 28 in Dubai, they would heavily rely on Bangladesh, who has to defeat both - India as well as Pakistan. They would also look to register a convincing win over India, in order to go up the ladder in order to determine their net run rate and secure a qualification, despite all of it looking bleak with the form Team India is carrying in the continental event.
