Lucknow Super Giantsis set to witness a massive power shift as a former Australia National Cricket Team player Tom Moody is set to hold the position of Global Director of Cricket. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned
franchise is looking forward to bringing in the legendary Australian, putting him in charge of the Super Giants group of franchises, including- Indian Premier League (IPL), Manchester-based franchise in The Hundred, and Durban Super Giants (DSG). Tom Moody, the IPL-winning head coach, has been back on the coaching staff after serving as a broadcaster for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for some time.
He recently led the Oval Invincibles to their third straight victory in The Hundred and has a wealth of coaching expertise. He participated in the ILT20 in addition to the 100-ball tournament, and he helped Desert Vipers place second in 2023 and 2025. According to the report in ESPNCricinfo, "It is understood that both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the owners of the Mumbai Indians, who bought a 49% stake in the Invincibles earlier this year, were keen to retain Moody. However, it is understood Moody opted to take the LSG offer as it gave him a larger role."
The Timeline of Tom Moody as Global Director of Cricket
In recent times, there have been several changes made to the coaching staff and the roster. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are considered to be one of the more unstable teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the recent development, the renowned Zaheer Khan, who was named the team's mentor the previous season, recently left the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Moody will essentially take Zaheer Khan's place in the lineup. The franchise hasn't revealed the timeline of Moody's role.
With this arrival, Moody is also set to return to IPL after leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2022. It was Moody's second term as SRH's coach, following a very successful first spell from 2013 to 2019 that included a 2016 championship victory. In 2021, he rejoined the team as director of cricket, but when fellow Australian Trevor Bayliss resigned, he was promoted to head coach the next season. Meanwhile, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was earlier appointed as a strategic advisor of the LSG for the IPL 2026 season.
