Late on Sunday, November 2, the Indian women’s cricket team etched history as they beat South Africa Women by 52 runs in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 to lift maiden ODI title. Coming into the tournament
as the underdogs, the India Women finished the league stage in fourth place with three wins and as many defeats, along with one washed out game.
However, in the semi-final, they outclassed former champions Australia Women to setup a final clash with South Africa, who were coming after a 125-run win over England Women in the semi-finals. Despite the ups and downs, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side held their nerves in the key game and returned victorious, courtesy an all-round performance by Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma.
India Women take home record-breaking price sum of USD 4.48 million
With the 13th edition of the Women’s CWC now over, the champions, that is India Women won a prize sum of USD 4.48 million after the ICC announced a record-breaking prize money ahead of the tournament. This sum is 239% more from the previous sum of $1.32 million which was rewarded to Australia in 2022. Additionally, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also announced a prize money of INR 51 Cr after their title win.
Moreover, the runners-up, that is South Africa Women will take home $2.24 million, while the two losing semi-finalists in Australia and England will return with @1.12 million each.
