With the esteemed T20 franchise league SA20 returning with his fourth edition later this year, the Sanjiv Goenka-led RP Group owned Durban Super Giants (DSG) have made a big announcement. With the Durban-based
franchise retaining Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad and picking Heinrich Klaasen as their wildcard, they went out to secure some of the bright talents at the auction table in September 2025.
Although, the franchise had pre-signed Jos Buttler and Sunil Narine, they went on to secure the services of Aiden Markram, Gerald Coetzee, Tony de Zorzi, Devon Conway, David Bedingham, and other at the auction. But just days prior to the tournament, the Super Giants have made a big move after Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was confirmed of missing the upcoming season.
Taijul Islam ruled out of SA20 2025-26; Kane Williamson named replacement
After the franchise was informed of Bangladesh left-arm spinner’s absence from the upcoming edition after he was brought in for approximately USD 28,858, they have signed in veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson as his replacement. Notably, Williamson featured for DSG last season but was released despite being their highest run-scorer. In SA20 2025, he amassed 233 runs at an average of 46.60 and a strike rate of 118.87 in eight game.
However, he recently announced retirement from T20Is, he continues to be in foray in franchise leagues. Last month, Williamson was appointed LSG’s strategic advisor for IPL 2026. He will be joined by Tom Moody, the Global Director of Cricket, Justin Langer and others.
