With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 reaching its penultimate stage and the semi-finals locked in, the England Women will take on South Africa Women in the first semi-final on October 29 whereas
the second semi-final will be played between defending champions Australia and hosts India on October 30. But prior to the semi-finals, the England women’s team suffered a massive setback as they saw their star spinner Sophie Ecclestone sit out in majority of their final league stage fixture against New Zealand Women on Sunday, October 26.
In the 27th match of the Women’s CWC 2025, which the England side won comfortably by eight-wicket margin, left their star player Sophie Ecclestone injured. The 26-year-old jarred her bowling shoulder while trying to prevent a boundary in England's final league fixture in Vizag. As a result, she was forced to leave the field after a shoulder concern following the dive.

While she was looked by the medical staff as she was seen in immense pain, but returned to the field after drinks break. Although, she did try her hands on bowling, but left the over mid-way after taking a wicket. However, the England Cricket Board (ECB) shared an update on Ecclestone’s injury writing, "After landing awkwardly on her left shoulder in the field in the first over, Sophie Ecclestone experienced more discomfort while bowling and is now receiving treatment .”
However, later England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt was asked of the same in the post-match press conference, to which she replied, “Don't know anything further, but it was a precaution with a huge match coming up. Wouldn't want to risk anything.”
