Abhimanyu Easwaran hasn’t got a spot inIndia’s squad for the upcoming two Tests against the West Indies at home. Easwaran received his maiden call-up in December 2022 and visited South Africa, Australia, and England with Team India in the last two-and-a-half years. However, he didn’t get a chance to play in any game for India. The right-handed batter has proven himself in First-Class cricket as he has done a magnificent job for Bengal. Serving Bengal since 2013, he has amassed 4879 runs with 15 hundreds and 23 fifties in 111 innings of 62 matches. With these numbers, he is the second-most successful batter for Bengal.
Following the team declaration for the Windies series, when BCCIChief Selector Ajit Agarkar was asked about Abhimanyu Easwaran’s
omission, the former India pacer said, “On Abhimanyu, we don't need a third opener at home.” Nitish was a part of India’s campaign in Australia and England for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 and Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 respectively. Agarakar's comment has made it clear that India will go ahead with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal only at home.
Ajit Agarkar showed confidence in Nitish Kumar Reddy’s all-round prowess
Ajit Agarkar has exhibited confidence in Nitish Kumar Reddy’s talent. Agarkar, during the presser, feels Reddy’s all-round ability provides flexibility to the team. “Nitish showed a lot of promise, with the way he bowled and his batting under pressure. He's a young kid who's developing. He does give a lot of flexibility,” said Agarkar.
Reddy has played seven Tests for India, in which he has notched up 343 runs and eight wickets. During the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Reddy also scored his maiden Test ton in the first innings. India lost that game by 184 runs but Nitish’s 114-run knock was appreciated.
