Fast bowler Mohammed Shami turned out to be a star performer as Bengal defeated Gujarat by 141 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2025 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While defending a target of 327 runs, Shami registered
figures of 5/38 as Gujarat were bowled out 185 runs. Gujarat batter Urvil Patel scored a fighting 109*(124) runs but his efforts went in vain as he didn’t get much support from the other batters.
Talking about the match, after taking a lead of 112 runs, Bengal declared their second innings on 214/8 giving Gujarat a target of 327 runs to win. Anustup Majumdar turned out to be a top scorer with 58 runs off 91 balls while Sudip Kumar Gharami contributed with 54(93) runs. For Gujarat, Siddharth Desai registered figures of 5/61. Apart from that, Arzan Nagwaswalla scalped two wickets while Vishal Jayswal put one in his bag.

Chasing the winning target, Gujarat had a poor start as they kept losing wickets in regular intervals. However, Urvil Patel turned out to be a lone warrior as he went on to score an unbeaten 109* runs off 124 balls hitting 16 fours. Jaymeet Manishbhai Patel also contributed with the score of 45(105) runs. Apart from that, none of the batters could stay at the crease for long as six batters went for a duck. Gujarat were bowled out for 185 runs on day four.
For Bengal, Mohammed Shami finished with figures of 5/38, while Shahbaz Ahmed took three and Akash Deep put one in his bag. Shami has showed great form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy as he already scalped 15 wickets in just two matches played so far. The right-arm pacer will be hoping to make a comeback in the upcoming series against South Africa.
