Shorna Akter entered the record books in the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025 match between Bangladeshand South Africa in Visakhapatnam. Akter joined Sharmin Akhter in the 41st over of the Bangladesh innings. In the 43rd over, Sharmin got run out and Shorna was now expected to step up and produce an impactful knock from her bat. With Sobhana Mostary, Shorna built a 31-run stand off 39 balls. Mostary got run out after contributing nine runs from her bat after facing eight balls. Nadine de Klerk got the better of Rabeya Khatun, who got dismissed on a two-ball duck.
Akter took Tumi Sekhukhune and Marizanne Kapp to the cleaners and hoarded runs at a rapid pace. In the final over of the innings, she stole two runs on Sekhukhune’s delivery and brought
her fifty in just 34 deliveries. It marked the fastest fifty of the Women’s World Cup 2025 as the Bangladesh player surpassed Australia skipper Alyssa Healy’s 35-ball half-century against India on October 12. Riding on Shorna’s superb batting efforts, Bangladesh reached 232/6 in their 50 overs.

South Africa recover after losing Tazmin Brits in the second over
Following the 233-run target, Bangladesh achieved success in the second over as left-arm Nahida Akter got the better of the right-handed opener in the second over. However, skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch are standing in the middle and have helped South Africa amass 55 runs in 14 overs.
South Africa are riding high on confidence after defeating India On October 9, while Bangladesh lost their last two matches. The Bangla team will have to win the match against the Proteas to solidify their chances of reaching the next round.
