The 2026 Australian Open Final is set to be played on Sunday at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. It will be the 10-time Australian Open champions Novak Djokovic going up against Carlos Alcaraz. History is on the line. If Djokovic wins this, he will reach 25 grand slams. While if Carlos Alcaraz wins the Final, he will be the youngest player to complete a career grand slam. There is plenty of records on the line regardless of who wins the Title. In this article we will look at the records that is set to be broken.
If Novak Djokovic wins –
He will be the most successful Grand Slam player in the history of the sport, male or female.
If he wins the Final, Djokovic would become the oldest man in the Open Era to win the Australian Open, surpassing Ken
Rosewall who won at the age of 37 in 1972.
A win would secure Djokovic’s 25th Grand Slam title moving him past Margaret Court (24) for the most major singles titles in history. He already holds the record for most Australian Open titles with 10. This win would move him to 11 and cement his legacy further If he wins the Final, Djokovic would become the oldest man in the Open Era to win the Australian Open, surpassing Ken Rosewall who won at the age of 37 in 1972.
What if Alcaraz wins ?
The Spanish World Number 1 is looking for the last piece of the puzzle for his trophy cabinet. At 22, Alcaraz has already won Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open. Alcaraz is chasing his maiden Australian Open title. If he wins, he will become only the sixth man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam. If he wins the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz will become the youngest man ever to achieve this feat going past the record held by Rafael Nadal who completed the set at 24. Carlos Alcaraz with a win here would join Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal as the only players to be World No. 1 at the time of winning their first Australian Open trophy. The final is also a rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympic Gold Medal battle, which Djokovic won in two tie-breakers. Alcaraz is ranked Number 1 currently while Djokovic is ranked Number 4.
