PCB Chief and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi will witness the final between India and the Men in Green in Dubai, on Sunday, September 28. Naqvi, who is also the ACC President, will also present
the trophy to the Asia Cup 2025 champions following the conclusion of the game. As ACC President, Naqvi holds the right to present the trophy to the champions of the continental tournament. Noting the latest update, the BCCI’s stance if India beat their arch-rivals and retain the distinguished trophy isn't clear in regards to receiving the trophy.
In this tournament, when India and Pakistan played against each other, no customary handshakes took place among players from both teams. The relations between both teams also soured when Pakistan accused match referee Andy Pycroft of favouring India in the handshake saga that took place on September 14, between the captains Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Agha. PCB also demanded Pycroft’s sacking but got no success as ICC stood with their veteran official.
Mohsin Naqvi also demanded Suryakumar Yadav’s ban from the final
Following India’s seven-wicket win against Pakistan on September 14, captain Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the triumph to the Indian Armed Forces and citizens who lost their lives in the Pahalgam Terror Attack that took place on April 22. PCB, under Mohsin Naqvi's leadership demanded a ban on Suryakumar for mixing cricket with politics.
PCB had demanded the ICC apply a Level 4 sanction, which is reserved for the most serious contravention of the ICC Code of Conduct. Hearing Pakistan’s demand, ICC match referee Richie Richardson gave a verdict against Suryakumar, which led to a fine of 30% from his match fee. BCCI have appealed against Richardson's decision.
