With the talks around the next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) intensifying with each passing day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm the dates for the auction, which
is scheduled to be held later this year. However, in the meantime, all ten franchises are back to work as they look to identify the players which they might look to retain as well as release ahead of the 2026 edition.
Amidst this, official broadcasters of the tournament, JioStar on Saturday, November 8 confirmed that the BCCI is set to reveal the retention list on November 15. This comes as the franchises have been informed of November 15 as the deadline day for the submission of the retention and release list of players. The announcement was made soon after Team India clinched the five-match T20I series against Australia.
IPL 2026 mini-auction to be held between December 13-15 out of India: Reports
This comes as the latest update after Cricbuzz had informed of the auction being held between December 13 to 15. However, reports further added that the auction might be held overseas seeing the challenges in securing an ideal venue due to the festivities and wedding season in India. As per the reports, the gulf region could potentially host the auction with Abu Dhabi in UAE , Oman and Qatar in the Middle-East.
As far as the retentions are concerned, there will be no cap on the number of players that each team can retain unlike before the mega auction, which was held last year prior to the IPL 2025. All the franchises will look in to secure some of their best talents and get into the auction with a plan to target a few players.
