Shubman Gillhas reacted to his appointment as India’s new ODI captain. India will tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is from October 19 to November 8 and Gill will be seen as the captain of India in the 50-over
format. He will replace veteran Rohit Sharma, who guided India to the Champions Trophy 2025 title win with his leadership prowess, this year. Gill will be expected to take Rohit’s rich legacy ahead with his captaincy and help India reach new heights in the format.
After the BCCI's announcement regarding his captaincy, when Gill was asked about getting the new responsibility, the 25-year-old looked overwhelmed and expected himself to play his role efficiently. “It’s the biggest honour to be able to lead your country in one-day cricket, and to lead a side that has done so well. It’s immense pride for me and I hope I’ll be able to do great,” remarked Gill.
Shubman Gill’s sensational captaincy in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025
Shubman Gill looked confident as Team India’s Test captain in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 played in England. Before the series, he was facing criticism for his poor batting average after playing three Tests in English conditions. However, he silenced his critics with his bat in the series. The right-handed batter smashed 754 runs in 10 innings of five matches and concluded the series as the highest run-getter.
Under his leadership, India succeeded in levelling the series by a 2-2 margin. In the final match played at The Oval, the team showed fighting spirit under him and snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat. The youngster’s superb captaincy and exceptional batting also got him the player of the series award, alongside England’s Harry Brook.
