Former Team Indiahead coach Ravi Shastri has warned veteran Virat Kohli for the ODI World Cup 2027. Kohli amassed two ducks in a row after a couple of ODI games against Australia down under. Following
his failures in Perth and Adelaide, Kohli fans are concerned about his future. This was the first instance when Kohli recorded two back-to-back ducks in ODIs in Australia. In Sydney, he will be expected to be among the runs to secure his place in the team as several young players are waiting for their turn in the side.
FollowingVirat Kohli’s miserable form, Shastri has said that competition for places in Team India has reached unprecedented levels and the 36-year-old will have to regain his form as quickly as possible. “He’ll have to get some form pretty quickly. The competition for places is such in India in white-ball cricket, no one is going to relax, whether it’s Virat or Rohit or anyone in the team,” said Shastri in a conversation with Fox Sports.
Ravi Shastri feels India are going through transition period
Ravi Shastri believes India are going through a transition period. Kohli’s spot is also not fixed in the team. “Times have changed significantly over the last seven months in Indian cricket, which has been undergoing a transition phase,” added Shastri.
In the last few months, players such as Abhishek Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Tilak Varma have proven themselves in competitive cricket. Noting that, veterans such Rohit and Kohli will have to shape up to keep themselves relevant in the team until ODI World Cup 2027 to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. In World Cup 2023 held in India, Kohli became the player of the tournament for ending up as the leading run-getter with 765 runs in 11 matches.
