In the latest turn of events Bangladesh's premium T20 tournament BPL schedule was halted on January 15 when players from Chattogram Royals and Nokhali Express refused to take the field, leaving match officials
waiting and the toss delayed at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The match was supposed to be played in the afternoon but it was abandoned without toss due to these issues as players have boycotted. Both matches scheduled on January 15 have been abandoned and it will be interesting to see what follows in the coming days.
Earlier in the day, Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) backed a boycott threat unless board director and finance committee chairman M Nazmul Islam resigns. The flare-up comes amid wider tensions around Bangladesh and the president of CWAB Mohammad Mithun told that players will not take the filed till Nazmul Islam is removed.
This comes after Nazmul called, former Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal an ‘Indian agent’ for advocating dialogue between Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council and the BCCI over the T20 World Cup venue row. Then on Wednesday, Nazmul said the Bangladesh Board would not lose much if its cricket team did not play the T20 World Cup. “The board has no profit or loss here,” BCB Finance Committee Chairman M Nazmul Islam told reporters on Wednesday. “Whether Bangladesh plays here or not, there is no profit or loss for the board – at least for this World Cup.”

After this statement from Nazmul Nazmul, Bangladesh players boycotted BPL and Dhaka cricket league matches. The players outlined five key issues which are the ongoing crisis in Dhaka First Division Cricket, the BCB’s response to allegations of sexual harassment involving women cricketers, the demand for Najmul’s resignation, and concerns over facilities and opportunities in women’s cricket.
As per the statement, it reiterated regret over what it called ‘objectionable’ remarks and said formal disciplinary proceedings had begun, including a show cause notice requiring a written response within 48 hours. The board also appealed to players to ensure the “smooth continuity” of the BPL, describing stakeholders interests.
After these incidents, Bangladesh Cricket Board have announced that Nazmul Ismal is sacked and has been relieved of his duties. It is still unsure what happens to the BPL but with this decision taken players might be looking to get back on the field.
