The Indian women’s cricket team on Sunday, November 2 etched their names into history books as they defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs to lift their maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title. Coming
into the final on the back of a mixed league stage, but a commanding win over former champions Australia Women, the Women in Blue sealed a comfortable win to get their hands on the silverware.
With all-round performance by Shafali Verma, who replaced injured Pratika Rawal in the Indian side and Deepti Sharma guided the hosts over the line, they not only got their hands on the prestigious title, but also were rewarded with the prize money by the International Cricket Council of USD 4.48 million. Moreover, the BCCI added a cherry on top with reward the girls with INR 51 Cr prize money.

While the winners will take the massive chunk, the runners-up were rewarded with a sum of $2.24 million. Notably, prior to the start of the tournament, the ICC announced record-breaking money money for the Women’s CWC 2025. While the winner prize money saw an exponential rise of 239 percent from the $1.32 million sum awarded to Australia in 2022, the Protean side got $2.24 million - an increase of 273 percent in comparison to England Women’s $600,000 three years ago.
