The National Football league (NFL) has been surrounded by the air of slumber after the tragic passing of Super Bowl champion Arthur Jones. The NFL legend, who played for the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive lineman, passed away on Friday, October 3, aged 39 only.
While the news came as a shock among the NFL community, his team, Baltimore Ravens confirmed his death while extending condolences to friends, family and everyone who loved him. “We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing. Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic - always displaying a love for
family, teammates and friends. We send our deepest condolences to the Jones family and all who loved Arthur,” statement from Eric deCosta of Baltimore Ravens read.
Not only this, his alma mater Sycracuse also confirmed his death with the head coach issuing a statement, and extending a row of grief among the NFL community. “I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Arthur Jones. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have gotten to know him over the past two years. His kindness and personality were a joy to be around. My prayers are with his family, friends, our alumni and everyone who knew him during his difficult times,” he wrote.
Arthur Jones NFL career
While his near and dear ones mourn his sudden demise, Arthur made his presence strongly felt in the NFL circle. Belonging to a family which runs in sports, Arthur was born on June 3, 1986. He played college football at Syracuse and later joined NFL in 2010 with Baltimore picking him in the drafts. In 2013, he played a pivotal role in Super Bowl XLVII and went on to lift the title with Ravens, who beat San Franciso 49ers 34-31.
While Jones later moved to Indianapolis Colts and finished his NFL career in 2017 with Washington. He has two brothers - Jone Jones and Chandler Jones. While Chandler is a longtime NFL defensive end with pro Bowl honours, his younger brother Jone Jones is a renowned face in the UFC.
