Dhruv Jurel has talked about being a part of Team India’s Test squad in a recent interview. The right-handed wicket-keeper batter looked brilliant for India A against Australia A in the first unofficial Test match played in Lucknow. In the first innings of the match, Jurel shone with his bat and racked up 140 runs from his bat to help India A deliver a solid reply to the visitors’ 532/6. The interesting fact is Jurel’s ton was his only second in competitive cricket. Before his century against Australia A, his only hundred came against Nagaland in 2022.
After producing the incredible knock against Australia A, when Jurel attended a presser, he was asked about being a member of Team India’s Test squad. Replying to the query, the 24-year-old remarked
that not everyone gets a chance to play for India so he feels blessed to be part of the team’s red-ball setup. "Staying with or around the (India) team definitely gives you confidence. I consider myself very lucky and privileged that I got the chance to play Tests for India and to be with the team. Even if you are not playing, when seniors are around. you learn so many things from them. In a country of billions, how many people get this opportunity?" said Jurel.
Dhruv Jurel’s recent performance for Team India
Dhruv Jurel toured with Team India for the Anderson-Tendulkar assignment against England. In the five-match Test series, he got the opportunity to play in the final game at The Oval after being a substitute wicket-keeper in the couple of earlier matches due to injury to Rishabh Pank. In India’s six-run win, the youngster chipped in with his innings of 19 and 34.
Jurel is highly likely to be included in India’s upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies to be played between October 2 and 14. Ahead of the series, his knock against Australia A will give him the confidence to shine with his bat against the Windies side if he gets a chance in India’s playing XI.
