With a jam-packed cricketing calendar for the Indian cricket team, the future of veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remains to be the most talked thing. While the senior duo recently returned
in the Indian colours in the three-match ODI series against Australia Down Under, their future continues to be talks as India eyes for the ODI World Cup 2027.
While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 World Cup title win in Barbados, they retired from Test cricket in May 2025 and now remain active only in ODIs. However, with age nears on both of them, the biggest question which comes to everyone’s mind is whether they will continue till the ODI World Cup in 2027, which is still over two years away.

However, the members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have time and again denied their retirement rumours, recently Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman, Arun Dhumal was inquired of the same. Speaking with ANI, Dhumal said, “You have these greats like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who people think are going, but they are not going. They are here to stay.” “And the way Rohit has shown his class in this ODI series, at that age, coming as player of the match in the final match and then player of the series, that shows the kind of conviction that they carry, the kind of hard work that they put in,” he continued.
Further speaking of their future, Dhumal added, “When it comes to Team India, they will want to give it their best. And that is the true reflection of a sportsman. And my best wishes to both of them. They have done wonderful. They have given their life to Indian cricket." Notably, after registering two ducks, Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 74 off 81 balls in the third ODI, whereas Rohit Sharma stitched an unbeaten 168-run stand with Kohli with his 121* in Sydney.
