It’s been over 15 days that the Indian cricket team won the Asia Cup 2025 title, beating Pakistan in the summit clash in Dubai. However, it was India’s third win over Pakistan in the tournament, the Men
in Blue were denied the trophy after their request to not receive the silverware from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The decision of the Indian team came as Naqvi also holds the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chair and is also a minister in the central government.
If reports are to be believed, Mohsin Naqvi went away with the trophy and eventually locked it up in his office, denying India the celebrations. While he has turned down to hand over the trophy, he remains adamant of giving it in an official ceremony, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains firm to not accept it like that.
Mohsin Naqvi responds to BCCI's letter; refuses to engage in "petty politics"
While it has been days since this fiasco came into news, recently, the ACC Chairman finally extended his congratulations to the Indian team, bringing in a new twist to the story. In a letter, Naqvi addressed the letter written by BCCI and acknowledged it. "Receipt of your letter dated September 30, 2025, is acknowledged. The letter was received just prior to the commencement of the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was scheduled for 3:00 PM (UAE time) on September 30, 2025,” the letter read as mentioned by NDTV Sports.
“The BCCI was represented online at the AGM by Mr Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar. This matter was discussed in detail during the AGM; however, since you have circulated this letter to ACC members, it is only appropriate to set the record straight," it added.
"At the very outset, we must congratulate you and the Indian Cricket Team on winning the Asia Cup 2025, as the ACC President did earlier in the AGM. The ACC President is extremely appreciative and notes with pleasure the emphasis you have placed in your letter on longstanding customs, traditions, established practices, cricketing protocols, and fundamental elements of sporting integrity. We wish with all our hearts that such expressions were not merely limited to vocabulary used in a letter but also displayed vehemently on the field of play," he further added while refusing to engage in “petty politics”.
