Argentina star Lionel Messi has been in news regarding his future in football and moreover with cloud looming over his participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held next year. The veteran
footballer who led Argentina to FIFA World Cup title in 2022, recently dropped a big statement on his future as he continues to play for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The 38-year-old striker however, is struggling to remain fit and available for the marquee tournament, he aims to defend the title for Argentina next year in North America. Speaking with NBC News in an interview on Monday, October 27, Messi said that he will see next year how his body feels.

Speaking in an interview, Messi said, "It's something extraordinary to be able to be in a World Cup and I would love to.” The football GOAT, who will turn 39 next month further added, “I would like to be there, to be well and be an important part of helping my national team, if I am there . And I'm going to assess that on a day-to-day basis when I start preseason next year with Inter and see if I can really be 100%, if I can be useful to the group, to the national team, and then make a decision.”
The Argentina international futher added that he wishes to give another chance as it’s World Cup. “ I'm really eager because it's a World Cup. We're coming off winning the last World Cup and being able to defend it on the field again is spectacular because it's always a dream to play with the national team, especially in official competitions." Notably, Messi has made 195 appearances for Argentina national team and has scored 114 goals.
