Graham Potter, who has been a manager of multiple Premier League clubs including Chelsea and West Ham United, is currently in talks with the Swedish federation to become the head coach of their men’s side.
Following the sacking of Jon Dahl Tomasson earlier this week due to poor performances of Sweden in the World Cup Qualifier, the 50-year-old had expressed his interest to take the role apart from talking about his love for the country.
As per the report from BBC Sport, the discussions in regards to Graham Potter becoming new head coach of Sweden are “moving quickly” while there is an expectation on social media that he takes it up next week in all likelihood. If Potter joins them, the task for him will be to substantially improve a team which is yet to win a game out of its first four at the World Cup Qualifier, finding themselves all but out of tournament contention so early.
Sweden's hopes of reaching FIFA World Cup next year is at stake
It was just last month when Graham Potter was sacked by West Ham United in the managerial role following a tough start to the ongoing 2025-26 season in the Premier League. The Englishman was a part of the Hammers for eight months before his sacking while at Chelsea, he lasted just about the same amount of time during the 2022-23 season after replacing Thomas Tuchel, who is currently the head coach of England.
Moreover, the decision to sack Jon Dahl Tomasson was taken after Sweden suffered a humiliating 1-0 loss to Kosovo in the World Cup Qualifier at home on Monday. Despite that, since Sweden have won their UEFA Nations League group in the recent past, they could earn themselves a play-off spot with the final chance to make it to the FIFA World Cup next year, which will be played in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
