In a major development from the world of boxing, former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua of Great Britain will be taking on American YouTuber-turned-boxer “The Problem Child” Jake Paul in a professional
match on December 19. The 36-year-old will be battling against The Problem Child in eight three-minute rounds inside the squared circle at the Kaseya Center in Miami, and the bout will be live and exclusive on Netflix.
Notably, Jake Paul, who is 28 years of age, was initially set to fight against American professional boxer Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match earlier this month but it got cancelled due to the latter’s ex-girlfriend filing a lawsuit against him. His opponent Anthony Joshua will make his return to the ring after getting knocked out by the IBF World Heavyweight Champion at the time, Daniel Dubois, in September of 2024.
When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no-one can deny me: Jake Paul
In his first comments after the fight got announced, Jake Paul was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no-one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted.” This announcement has come to light despite the rumours about how 2012 Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul was initially denied.
As far as Anthony Joshua is concerned, his first reaction about the upcoming professional boxing match was just as intense as his opponent. He said, “I took some time out and I'm coming back with a mega show. It's a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I'm here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected.”
“Mark my words, you'll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I'm about to break the internet over Jake Paul's face,” the Briton added.
