Former Franceand Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has refuted his death rumours with an official statement on Instagram. The last few weeks saw the rumours of the 46-year-old demise on social media. Following the fake news, Abidal’s fans texted him and his family to show concerns. Reacting to his supporters’ concerns, Abidal has issued a statement in which he said he is hale and hearty. On September 11, the French turned 46. In 2012, Abidal went through a liver transplant after a tumour was found in his stomach. Recently, when his death rumours went viral, there was a claim that the ex-French footballer passed away due to complications resulting from his second liver transplant.
However, Abidal has dismissed these disturbing rumours with his statement
on Instagram. "Some rumors should never exist. I'm here, with my family, and well. Respect is key. Just to clarify- I'm fine, alive and healthy. Thank you for your support. Let’s focus on what really matters. Thank you for your messages of concern,” wrote Abidal. Eric has been suffering from liver cancer since 2011 but his liver plant in 2013 has delivered him a normal life.

Eric Abidal is currently serving UAE’s club Al-Wasl as their Sporting Director. Earlier, from 2018 to 2018, he also played with Barcelonaas the Sporting Director. He replaced Roberto Fernandez in the post. During his Barcelona stint, he signed Frenkie de Jong.
In August 2020, he was sacked from his position after Barca’s 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final. Talking about his playing career with Barcelona, Abidal won 15 titles with Barcelona. He was also a part of France, who ended up the FifA World Cup 2006 as runners-up.
