During the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Australia, former India captain Virat Kohli added another feather to his cap in the 50-overs format, becoming the second highest run-scorer
in history. At the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Virat Kohli reached the milestone number (14,235*), to go past Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara (14,234) while in pursuit of 237-run target and now, he is only behind his former teammate and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) in the all-time list.
After registering two successive ducks in the first two ODIs of the series in Perth and Adelaide, the pressure was firmly and squarely on Virat Kohli to get some runs under his belt and most importantly, play a key role in taking India over the line for their first win of the series. He celebrated scoring his first run in the series on the bowling of Josh Hazlewood with a smile and a fist pump before proceeding to compile the 75th fifty of his ODI career.
Shortly after, Virat Kohli took a single on the bowling of Cooper Connolly, his 54th run in the innings, nudging it behind square on the leg side, to go in the history books as the second highest run-scorer in ODIs.

Virat Kohli ended up with an unbeaten 74 off 81 with seven fours, to take India over the line for a nine-wicket victory while sharing an unbeaten 168-run stand with Rohit Sharma, who scored his 33rd ODI hundred in the process. Following a convincing win and an impressive batting performance from Kohli and Rohit, they gave an interview together to Fox Sports, where it seemed that this will turn out to be their last international tour to Australia in Indian colours.
These two cricketing stalwarts are expected to play for India next in the home ODI series against South Africa, starting on November 30.
