Rory McIlroy, the famed Northern Ireland golfer, one of only six players in history to win all four majors in the sport, is currently in India, participating in the DP World India Championship in Delhi.
Ahead of the start of the tournament at the Delhi Golf Club, during a press conference, the 36-year-old expressed his love for cricket, the most famous sport in India, stating that he is “a bit of a sicko” about the sport and watches Test matches.
Notably, in the first round of the DP World India Championship in Delhi, Rory McIlroy had an indifferent start, but still, he managed to card (-3) after leaving his driver in the clubhouse. Shane Lowry of Ireland leads the tournament with (-8) card after the conclusion of the first round just ahead of Keita Nakajima of Japan in second place with (-7) card while Spaniard Jorge Campillo is in third place with (-5) card.
I’d love to go and see a cricket game. I’d love to go watch a cricket match: Rory McIlroy
It was just yesterday when Rory McIlroy talked about wanting to watch a cricket match but since there isn’t any major one happening in Delhi currently, he expressed his desire to come back for it. He said, “I’d love to go and see a cricket game. I’d love to go watch a cricket match. I don’t think there’s anything on until next month maybe. I’d love to come back and do that.”

The Northern Irishman also spoke about his plans to be in Australia later this year when the Ashes 2025-26 series will be played between the hosts and England, for which he couldn’t hide his excitement. He remarked, “I’m going to be in Australia later this year, and The Ashes is going to be on. So that’s something I’m quite excited - I don’t think I’ll be able to get to a game but I’d love to do that.”
It is important to note that Rory McIlroy is set to play in the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne from December 4 onwards, the same day the second Test of the five-match Ashes will begin at the Gabba in Brisbane.
