On this day, February 4, 2018: Adelaide Strikers win their maiden BBL title. It was a home Final for the Adelaide Strikers and they were onto something which they have never achieved in the history of BBL. The search for the title was elusive. Adelaide Strikers was also missing Rashid Khan for the Final. Adelaide Strikers were batting first and it was a Jake Weatherald show all the way. Alex Carey opened with Weatherald and Strikers lost an early wicket as Carey was dismissed for 18. Captain Travis Head joined Weatherald in the middle. There are not many times, Travis Head would get overshadowed in a partnership but it happened on that day.
Jake Weatherald smashed a century and took the Hurricanes bowlers to the cleaners. It was a sensational
knock from the left-handed opener. He was finally dismissed for 110 runs of 75 balls and the score read 181/2 in 18.2 overs. Travis Head provided a good finish and was unbeaten on 44 while Colin Ingram stayed unbeaten on 14 in the end as Adelaide Strikers posted a score of 202/2.
It was a massive score on the Final but the Adelaide Oval track was so good for batting that they had to deliver a good bowling performance. Hobart Hurricanes in the chase lost an early wicket, but Darcy Short and George Bailey stitched in a partnership and kept the Hurricanes in the game. Peter Siddle came in and bowled an inspired spell and he picked up three wickets to derail the Hobart Hurricanes innings. Siddle finished with 3/17 in his four overs. Hobart Hurricanes ended up with 177/5 in their innings as they lost the match.
In front of a packed, Adelaide crowd it was a terrific performance from the team. Jake Weatherald was the player of the match scoring an outstanding century and they were the best team in the tournament and this was a deserved title for them. Siddle was amazing with the ball and shifted the momentum towards the Adelaide Strikers. It was a memorable day for everyone involved as Adelaide won their maiden BBL title on this day.
