After going down against England in the three-match T20I series at home, New Zealand is now hosting the Three Lions for three-match ODI series. The series commenced on Sunday, October 26 with the hosts going 1-0 up in the series with a four-wicket win at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. However, the match saw England put up a tough fight, but the home side prevailed the challenge.
But just hours prior to the ODI leg, the Black Caps received a massive blow as pacer Kyle Jamieson was ruled out after suffering a stiffness on the left side. On the eve of the first ODI, the Black Caps took to X to share an update about the pacer which read, “BlackCaps pace bowler Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the upcoming Chemist Warehouse ODI series after experiencing
stiffness in his left side during training at Bay Oval. The 30-year-old will return to Christchurch this afternoon for further assessment with a target of returning for the tour by West Indies in November.”
New Zealand Cricket name Blair Tickner as Kyle Jamieson’s replacement
But after the conclusion of the series opener, on Monday, October 27, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed Central Stags pace bowler Blair Tickner as Kyle Jamieson’s replacement. According to the Black Caps, the 32-year-old will join the side in Hamilton on Monday for the remainder of the series. Notably, Tickner has played 13 ODIs for the Kiwi side, picking 16 wickets.
“Blair’s an experienced campaigner and no stranger to international cricket,” New Zealand coach Rob Walter said. "He bowls a heavy ball from a decent height with plenty of energy and aggression. In that respect he can fill a similar role to what Kyle would normally perform," he continued.
New Zealand’s updated squad for England ODIs:
Mitchell Santner (Captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Kane Williamson, Will Young, Blair Tickner.
