Star pacerMohammed Shami couldn’t find his place in the lineup again as the BCCIannounced the Indian squad for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa. Shami recently showed great form in the ongoing
Ranji Trophy 2025-26 where he on to take 15 wickets in just three matches played so far. Despite this, the selectors ignored him for the upcoming Test series against the Proteas.
Reacting to Mohammed Shami’s snub from the South Africa Tests, his coach Mohammed Badruddin slammed the BCCI and Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for deliberately ignoring the star fast bowler despite his great form in First-Class cricket in recent times. “They are ignoring him, that’s clear. There’s no other reason that makes sense to me. When a player is playing Test-level cricket, taking 15 wickets in two games, he doesn’t look unfit from anywhere. The selectors are just overlooking him, that’s it,” Badruddin said in his interview with India Today.
When you are performing and not picked, it’s frustrating: Mohammed Badruddin
Speaking further, Mohammed Badruddin also revealed that Mohammed Shami has been by not getting picked despite performing well in domestic cricket. Shami last played a Test match for India back in 2023 which was the final of the World Test Championship against Australia at the Oval. His last international game for India was the final of the Champions Trophy in Dubai on March 9, 2025.
“Obviously, he’s disturbed. Anyone would be. When you’re performing and still not getting picked, it’s frustrating. He’ll make such a comeback that it will silence everyone. If you’re not picking him now despite his form, then stop saying you select based on performance,” Badruddin said.
