The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) Season 3 served up two emphatic results at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium on Saturday, as debutants Ahmedabad Lions marked their first-ever appearance with a commanding
9-wicket victory over Srinagar Ke Veer, while Chennai Singams followed it up with a dominant 44-run win against the Tiigers of Kolkata in the second match of the day on Saturday (January 10).
After ending up on the losing side on Day 1, Srinagar Ke Veer bid for redemption but failed to change their fortune. Asked to bat first, they struggled for momentum from the outset as early wickets put pressure on the middle order. Despite a fighting effort from Amol Nilugade (21 off 14), partnerships failed to materialise. Ahmedabad Lions kept things tight through the innings, with Nizam Ali (3/6) leading the bowling effort and receiving strong support from his teammates to restrict Srinagar to 68/9 in their allotted 10 overs.
Defending a modest total, Srinagar’s bowlers attempted to keep the contest alive. Prajyot Ambhire once again stood out with his control and variations, with three bowlers picking up a wicket apiece. However, the target proved well within reach for the Lions.
In reply, Ahmedabad Lions showed composure in their maiden ISPL chase. Opener Sikandarbhai Bhatti produced a sensational knock, smashing the first half-century of the season and remaining unbeaten on 53 off 36 balls, single-handedly guiding his side to a comfortable win and a dream start to their ISPL campaign.
In the second match of the evening, Chennai Singams delivered a clinical all-round performance. Despite a nightmare start that saw them slump to 8/2, Sarfraz Khan turned the tide with a blazing 45 off 24 balls, forging a crucial partnership with Jagannath Sarkar (16 off 19). Late strikes from Vivek Shelar (3/15) triggered a mini-collapse, but cameos from Sambhaj Patil (14 off 6) and a hefty 21 extras, including 13 penalty runs, pushed Chennai to a competitive 102/8.
Chasing 103, the Tiigers of Kolkata never settled as Chennai’s bowlers applied relentless pressure. Jagannath Sarkar starred with the ball, returning 2/7, while Ashish Pal (2/15) removed key batters to leave Kolkata reeling. Wicketkeeper-batter Saif Ali (26 off 23) fought a lone battle, but the Tiigers could only manage 58/5, falling well short as Chennai sealed a comprehensive victory.
On January 11, SPL Season 3 Fixtures, Ahmedabad Lions face Delhi Superheros at 5:30 PM, while Falcon Risers Hyderabad take on Bengaluru Strikers at 8:00 PM.
