On Sunday, October 5, India once again locked horns with Pakistan, but this time in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, underway in India and Sri Lanka. While the Women in Blue came into the match after a 59-run win over co-hosts Sri Lanka, the Pakistan Women were coming off a defeat which came against Bangladesh Women. As the two teams too the field, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side continued their winning streak, handing Pakistan 88-run defeat at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Like the previous three matches held between India and Pakistan in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025, this time also the two teams maintained no handshake policy - a gesture which has been prevalent off late due to the strained cross-border tensions between the two neighbouring
nations. Apart from this, the match also saw some controversial decision, one of them being Muneeba Ali’s run-out.
Muneeba's run-out issue has already been settled: Diana Baig breaks silence
The incident took place on the final ball of the fourth over when Kranti Goud made a LBW appeal after the ball hit Muneeba’s pads. While the appeal was turned down by the third umpire, Deepti Sharma went for a run-out which saw Muneeba lift her bat just when the ball hit the stumps. Notably, during the match, former Australian cricketer Mel Jones explained the MCC law on air, suggesting the batter shouldn't have been given out.
"Law of cricket 30.1.2: A batter shall not be considered to be out of her ground in running or diving towards her ground and beyond, and having grounded some part of her bat, the bat beyond the popping crease, there is subsequent loss of contact between the ground and any part of her person or bat, or between the bat and the person. So, she wasn't running, she wasn't diving. And so, because of that fact, there was no running or diving; that is the reason why she's been given out,” she added.
Later at the post-match press conference, a reporter asked Baig, "Muneeba was run out, and the captain also raised some concerns regarding that incident. Has the management made any decision on this matter? Any comment on Muneeba's run-out?" To this she replied, "Muneeba's run-out issue has already been settled, I believe. I don't want to talk much about it now. Whatever happened and whatever the situation was, I think it has been resolved."
