Days after committing to play the full edition of the upcoming edition of Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 after being signed by the Sydney Thunder, former India cricketer and one of the legends of the game,
Ravichandran Ashwin has been officially ruled out of the season. The Sydney Thunder franchise was handed a massive setback on Tuesday, November 4.
Taking to social media, the franchise confirmed absence of Ashwin for the upcoming season while extending their best wishes as he recovers from surgery to his knee. It is to be noted that Ashwin injured his knee while preparing for the upcoming BBL 15. As a result, he has to undergo a process which leaves him to no option but to miss the 2025-26 season.

Taking to social media, the spin legend was quick to address his sudden absence after his most-awaited return on the field. In an elaborated post, while he described the injury, he also added, “I’m gutted to miss BBL|15. My focus now is recovery and coming back stronger. I’m grateful to the Thunder family and the fans for the warmth they’ve already shown me. Trent and the entire management made me feel part of the club from our very first conversation."
"If rehab and travel plans allow, I’d love to be around the group later in the season and meet the fans. Wishing both Thunder teams a big year,” he confirmed. The Sydney Thunder will begin their BBL 15 campaign in Hobart in a rematch of the final against Hurricanes on December 16.
