On October 26, 2025, New Zealand hammered India by 113 runs in the second Test, played in Pune. With this win, the Tom Latham-led team scripted history as they became the first New Zealand side to win a red-ball
series in India. Earlier, in the opening Test in Bengaluru, the Black Caps beat the hosts by eight wickets. Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand elected to bat first. Riding on Devon Conway’s 76 and Rachin Ravindra’s 65, the visitors posted a total of 259 on the board. Washington Sundar registered best figures with the ball, claiming 7/59 figures in 13.1 overs. Veteran Ravichandran Ashwin also took three wickets.
Following the total, India got bundled out on 156. Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the highest run-scorer for India with his 38-run innings. Mitchell Santner wrecked India’s batting attack and bagged 7/53 figures. After getting a 103-run lead, New Zealand skipper Latham looked confident and produced an 86-run knock from his bat. Tom Blundell (41 off 83) and Glenn Phillips (48 off 82) chipped in with their knocks which took New Zealand to 255. Sundar again emerged as the most successful bowler for India with four wickets.

India got dismissed on 245 while chasing 359 runs
Defending 359 runs, New Zealand saw Santner’s domination again. The spin wizard claimed 6/104 figures. Except for Yashasvi Jaiswal (77 off 65) and Ravindra Jadeja (42 off 84), no batter looked comfortable against the Kiwi bowling unit. Santner’s extraordinary bowling got him the Player of the Match (POTM) award.

New Zealand went on to win the third Test in Mumbai as well. In the final game, the Kiwi side beat India by 25 runs and whitewashed the home team. India lost their first Test series on home soil after 12 years.
