Romeo Lavia, the 21-year-old Belgian international, is currently a part of the Premier League giants Chelsea, joining them in 2023 after displaying some outstanding performances for Southampton. Lavia is a technically
gifted player who has the ability to control the game in the midfield. However, ever since he joined Chelsea, he has often been out of the squad due to injury concerns.
Lavia’s injury concerns in his first season restricted him to play just 30 minutes of football with the Blues. However, Chelsea did not lose hope in the midfielder as in the previous season he made a total of 22 appearances, which was a significant upgrade from his first season at the club. Enzo Maresca considers him as a rising star for Chelsea in the upcoming years once he is fully fit and ready to play week-in-week-out.
With Romeo, we are trying to do exactly the same that we have done with Wes and with Reece: Enzo Maresca
Chelsea are reportedly going to miss 7-8 key players from the squad for the clash against table-toppers Liverpool, which includes big names like Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, and Wesley Fofana, etc. Amidst all the concerns in the midfield, Enzo Maresca has provided a big update on the availability of Romeo Lavia and stated that he is all fit and ready to play against the defending champions of the PL. “With Romeo, we are trying to do exactly the same that we have done with Wes and with Reece”, said Maresca in the pre-match press conference.
The Chelsea manager further remarked, “The target with Romeo is that we can help him and we can bring him in the same condition as Wes and Reece, where they can play games. As you can see now, Reece is playing more games without problems. Hopefully, we can do the same with Romeo.” It will be interesting to see if Romeo Lavia can turn out to be the point of difference in the upcoming match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in London.
