The Chennai Super Kings had lodged an official complaint to the BCCI addressing their concerns regarding black magic done by the fans. Lalit Modi commented on the issue stating that this wasn’t the first time that such an issue had taken place. Similar incidents happened in 2011 and he had warned the team owners of such practices in the opposing team’s dressing rooms.
“I remember I posted some team owner doing this to the opposing team. By doing exactly this themselves in opposing team dressing room. I even alerted the opposing team owners about this way back in 2011 season - when it happened and I got an alert with concrete proof. I will reveal all these type of activities conducted by whom in the movie / Tv series as decided by my team to disclose”,
said Lalit Modi on X. The issue hasn’t been considered as trivial by the management as they have strictly addressed the issue.

Lalit Modi issues strong warning, vows to expose names behind such practices as viral video sparks controversy
“Throughout the match, our players were repeatedly subjected to disturbing incidents where certain sections of the audience were seen and reported engaging in black magic, voodoo rituals, and other occult practices, intentionally targeting CSK players. Visuals and credible eyewitness accounts shared with us indicate individuals making unusual hand gestures, drawing strange symbols, using black cloth, and performing acts that are deeply unsettling and against the spirit of sportsmanship. Soon after these incidents, our players experienced a sudden and unexplained dip in rhythm, poor judgment, and an unusual series of dismissals” as per the report filed.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad fans had shared some videos of them chanting a few words and pointed at the Chennai Super Kings star player, Shivam Dube. Immediately he was bowled by Sakib Hussain and the Sunrisers fans celebrated the wicket. The video had gone viral across social media platforms and the CSK fans had accused the opposition fans of black magic. Such incidents do obviously go against the spirit of the game as they disrupt the natural flow. The Chennai Super Kings has taken the issue into serious consideration and will be awaiting a reply.
Another fact to be considered is that, there is a massive chance that the video could be pure coincidence. There are 120 balls bowled in the entire innings and the fans could just attempt the same thing over and over again. There are no extra costs incurred, just the effort so that they get one perfect video that would catch worldwide attention under the banner of black magic. There exists no concrete proof as this is purely a superstitious practice. To even think that such practices have a say in today’s world, seems really unbelievable.
The Chennai Super Kings had a tough start in the initial games of the IPL and when they were just getting back on track, such an incident unfolded. It obviously will disturb the management, the players and the fans but it would be better to focus on the upcoming games as they have some important games coming up.
