Star wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan played a captain’s knock for Jharkhand on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. The left-hander led from the front with a knock of 125* runs on day one
of the match against Tamil Nadu at SNR College Cricket Stadium in Coimbatore. With the help of Ishan’ knock, Jharkhand ended the day with 307 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Coming to bat first after winning the toss, Jharkhand didn’t get a great start as they lost two wickets for just 24 runs. After that, Sharandeep Singh and Virat Singh added 55 runs for the third wicket. Sharandeep got out after scoring 48 runs off 102 balls, while Virat scored 28 off 47 balls. After that, skipper Ishan Kishan took charge of the innings for Jharkhand.
Ishan Kishan and Sahil Raj’s partnership took Jharkhand past 300 runs on day one
Ishan Kishan went on to play a captain’s knock for Jharkhand after the end of Sharandeep and Virat’s partnership with wickets falling from the other end. Jharkhand were at 157/6 when Sahil Raj joined Ishan Kishan at the crease. After that, the duo didn’t let any wicket fall for the rest of the day and put up an unbeaten partnership of 150 runs for the seventh wicket. Sahil remained unbeaten on 64*(105) hitting six fours and two sixes while Ishak scored 125* runs off 183 balls hitting 14 fours and two sixes.
Talking about other matches of the day, Maharashtra turned out to be a star performer for Maharashtra with his knock of 91(151) runs. Gaikwad’’s knock came when Maharashtra were struggling at 18/5. After that, they went on to score 179/7 by the end of the day. Apart from that, Srikar Bharat scored 142 runs while Sheikh Rasheed scored 94 runs as Andhra Pradesh finished day one on 289/3 against Uttar Pradesh.
