and elected to bowl first. Akash Deep stepped up for India and got rid of openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam. Both got dismissed within nine overs and Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto got the responsibility to stabilise Bangladesh’s innings. However, Shanto fell against Ravichandran Ashwin and departed after scoring 31.
Following the Bangladeshskipper’s departure, no batter could handle India’s disciplined bowling and the visitors eventually got bundled out 233. Mominul stood tall under pressure remained unbeaten at his score of 107 off 194. Following the total, India declared their innings after posting 285/9 in just around 35 overs as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul played impactful knocks of 72, 47, and 68 respectively. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan grabbed four wickets apiece for Bangladesh.
India’s bowling attack folds Bangladesh on 146 in the second innings
In the second innings, Bangladesh’s batting unit put up a disastrous show against India’s spin-bowling attack. Veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stepped up and took six wickets together, picking up three scalps each. Jasprit Bumrah registered 3/17 figures in his 10 overs while Akash Deep got one wicket.
Chasing 95 runs, India witnessed the fierce side of Jaiswal again as the opener smashed a quick 51 off 45. Virat Kohli also came into the middle after the early fall of captain Rohit and Shubman Gill and the veteran amassed an unbeaten 29 off 37 to take India home by seven wickets on day five. With these triumphs, India sealed the two-match series by 2-0 and Jaiswal’s twin fifties made him the player of the match (POTM) winner.
