The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has reached its penultimate stage with the four semi-finalists locked. As the tournament progresses, England Women will take on South Africa Women in Guwahati on Wednesday,
October 29, the defending champions, Australia Women will play host nation, India Women in the second semi-final on Thursday, October 30.
But ahead of the final phase, the tournament was marred with a fresh controversy which saw two unnamed Australian cricketers become a victim of harassment. The two cricketers were stalked and molested by a motorcyle-borne man in Indore as they stepped outside their team hotel while on their way to a cafe. However, the accused has been identified and taken into police custody, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) condemned the act and pledged to look into the security protocols.

After BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia pledged to tighten security, the action was quick as the Mumbai Police have already put to alert ahead of the semi-finals. A senior police officer revealed that the security arrangements for the players have been tightened during their movement to and from the stadium as well as during their stay at the hotel. A senior police officer in Maharashtra Police also confirmed the update while stating, “Since the very first day that is, from October 18th, when practice started here, we have deployed guards at all the hotels where the women players are staying. ”
He also added, “ Apart from that, whenever the team travels from the stadium to the hotel or vice versa, we provide them with an escort. Here at the ground, we have deployed around 600 personnel, out of which 75 are officers and the rest are police constables. In addition, if any player wants to go out, they must inform us, and we provide them with protection as well .” Moreover, he further mentioned that security personnel are available 24x7 for players.
