With the Indian domestic season currently underway in the subcontinent, the women cricketers are currently playing the Senior Women’s T20 trophy. In the match between Maharashtra and Punjab, Indian batter
Kiran Navgire etched history as she smashed fastest women’s T20 hundred at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Friday, October 17.
Playing for Maharashtra, Navgire’s world record breaking feat not only helped her breach veteran Sophie Devine’s record, but also guided her side to nine-wicket victory. The 31-year-old opening batter, who has played six T20Is for India, played a 35-ball 106* runs inning, going past Sophie Devine’s record which she had etched in 2021.
Kiran Navgire becomes only woman cricketer to score a ton at strike rate of over 300
Opening for Maharashtra in a run-chase of 111, Navgire went on to add 106* runs off 35 deliveries. Her innings was laced with 14 fours and seven sixes, guiding her side to chase the total in just eight overs. Moreover, Navgire scored at a strike rate of 302.86, becoming the only woman to score a century at a strike rate of over 300.
While Navgire lost her opening partner Ishwari Savkar on the seventh delivery, the in-form batter went on to stitch unbeaten 103-run partnership for the second wicket with Mukta Magre. While it was an easy win for Maharashtra, their total of 113/1 is now the lowest team score to feature an individual hundred in women’s T20 cricket, breaking the previous record of 123, set in CSA T20 match.
