South Africa hit by injuries ahead of T20 World Cup, Stubbs could replace them

South Africa have been hit with injuries with only a few more weeks left till the start of the upcoming T20 World Cup. David Miler was the latest player to get injured. A few days back Donovan Ferreira was injured during a game and Tony de Zorzi has been injured since a few weeks and all three players are named in the World Cup squad. Donovan Ferreira is in doubt after sustaining a shoulder injury during the SA20. Donovan Ferreira was injured while fielding on the cover boundary for Joburg Super Kings against Pretoria Capitals. Attempting to stop a four off the final ball of the innings, he dived full length but landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and was injured. Despite the injury, Ferreira later walked out to bat. However, he faced just

one delivery before retiring hurt.

David Miller picked up a suspected groin injury while playing for the Paarl Royals against Johannesburg Super Kings in SA20 match. He suffered the blow while fielding and walked off the field soon after. The left hander did not come out to bat for the Royals later during the match as the injury appeared to be serious.

The injury has ruled Ferreira out of the remainder of the SA20 season. Ferreira and Miller absence could also impact South Africa’s T20 World Cup plans as both are the designated middle order players. Ferreira was selected in the squad as a finisher, a back-up wicketkeeper, and a part-time bowling option. If either of them gets ruled out, South Africa are highly likely to name Stubbs as replacement. Stubbs has been in terrific form in the SA20 and will be like for like replacement.

South Africa will start their campaign against Canada on February 9, with group-stage matches against Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the UAE to follow. Teams can make changes to the squad till January 31.
