In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old cricketer from Australianamed Ben Austin lost his life after the ball struck his neck during the practice session. Ben was training in Melbourne with the help of a hand-held divide known as Wanger. Although Ben was wearing a helmet, there was no neck guard while he was practicing.
Eventually, Ben Austin was struck by the ball on the neck and collapsed immediately after that. After that, he was provided advanced life support and was transported to Monash Medical Centre in critical condition. Despite the efforts from the doctor, Ben was placed on life support and lost his life on Thursday, October 30.
Cricketing fraternity mourning Ben Austin’s loss
The cricketing fraternity has been left in shock after Ben Austin’s untimely death while playing cricket. His
father Jace Austin said that the family was ‘utterly devastated’ with their son’s death. Cricket Victoria also announced that the cricketing community across the country would be mourning the young cricketer’s death. "We are absolutely devastated by the passing of Ben, and the impacts of his death will be felt by all in our cricket community," the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club said in a statement.
Ben Austin’s death also reminded the cricket fans of the horrific incident that took place back in 2014 when Phillip Hughes lost his life after the ball struck his neck during a domestic cricket match. Hughes suffered a vertebral artery dissection and subsequent subarachnoid hemorrhage in his brain after being hit on his neck which became the reason of his death.
