Young cricketing prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshihas achieved another feat in his young cricketing career so far. The 14-year-old has been named vice-captain of the Bihar cricket team for the first two matches
of the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Suryavanshi will be deputy to captain Sakibul Gani in the first two matches as Bihar is set to begin their campaign from October 15.
Bihar will face Arunachal Pradesh in their Ranji Trophy2025-26 Plate League season opener at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna from October 15. Due to not getting a single win in the previous edition, Bihar have been relegated to the plate league in the upcoming Ranji season. However, it can turn out to be a big opportunity for Vaibhav Suryavanshi as he has been given the role of vice-captain at the mere age of just 14.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi aims to have memorable season in Ranji Trophy 2025-26
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar at the age of 12 years in the 2023-24 season. He has played a total of 10 matches in his First-Class career so far where he could only score 100 runs at an average of 10. However, the things changed for the young cricketer as he was picked by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.1 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction at the age of just 13 years. After that, he went on to make his debut in IPL 2025 at the age of 14 years, becoming the youngest IPL debutant.
Suryavanshi had a memorable season in IPL 2025 where he amassed 252 runs from seven matches at a fiery strike rate of 206.55. He also scored a century in just 35 balls during IPL 2025, becoming the second fastest centurion in the cash-rich league. Now, at the age of 14, Suryavanshi will take over as vice-captain of Bihar in the first two matches.
