Emma Raducanu, 22-year-old British professional tennis player, has withdrawn her name from the last two scheduled tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong. The reason cited is her health issues, which she has been
suffering from the past few days. According to PA news agency, the problem started after Raducanu struggled to play in the Wuhan heat and retired from the first round of the tournament last week. The 2021 US Open winner lost her first round match in Ningbo earlier this week after visiting a doctor to get her blood pressure checked and a physiotherapist to treat a lower back ailment during the contest. After facing issues in playing due to her ill health, she chose to cancel her Asian swing.
Raducanu, on Tuesday, lost in three sets against Zhu Lin, a Chinese wild card and 219th-ranked player in the world, in the opening round of the Ningbo Open. She was scheduled to play for the first time in the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo as one of the main performers later this month. The event has once again been plagued by a wave of withdrawals, including Emma Navarro, Jessica Pegula, and reigning champion Zheng Qinwen.
Emma Raducanu to retain Spanish coach Francisco Roig for next season
Things didn't go as planned for the British No. 1 as she was hoping to end her 2025 season strongly and be ready for the Australian Open in January. However, the good news is that she decided to retain Spaniard Francisco Roig for 2026. Roig has been a successful former long-time coach for Rafael Nadal.
Emma Raducanu had a rough start to the season, both on and off the court, with former coach Nick Cavaday resigning before her crying uncontrollably during a match in Dubai after spotting a man acting fixatedly in the stands. At the Miami Open in mid-March, she had only won three matches prior, but a short-term coaching deal with Mark Petchey paid off right away, helping her to advance to the maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinal. If her rapport with new coach Francisco Roig continues to be good, she could have a great start in 2026.
