Cricket Australia has unveiled their squad for the first Test of the much-awaited Ashes series. The hosts will take on England down under in the first Test of a five-match series at Optus Stadium in Perth
Starting on November 21. For the first Test, Steve Smith has been appointed as captain as Pat Cummins has been out due to lumbar bone stress injury. Apart from that, Travis Head will serve the role of a vice-captain.
Talking about the squad, Marnus Labuschagne has returned to Australia’s Test lineup after getting dropped from the West Indies tour this year. Apart from that, Jake Weatherald has also been included in the squad and is likely to make his Test debut for Australia at the age of 31 years. Weatherald is likely to be seen as an opening batter as Sam Konstas hasn’t been picked for the first Test.
Sean Abbott to replace Pat Cummins in first Test
Australia have a star studded fast bowling line up for the first Ashes Test against England including the likes of Josh Hazlewood and MItchell Starc. Apart from that, Sean Abbott has also been included in the squad in place of injured Pat Cummins. The spin bowling department include Nathan Lyon and Beau Webster as an all-rounder.
