The Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi hosted a meeting with the brand new ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) champions at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 5.
The 75-year-old received a signed “NaMo” jersey with No. 1 inscribed on the back of it from the Indian women’s cricket team in appreciation of his support to them over the years despite their ups and downs on and off the field.
In a social media post on X from ANI from their official account, it was mentioned that PM Modi congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for their World Cup victory apart from praising them for their comeback in the tournament. Notably, during the league stage of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, India lost three matches in a row by a small margin to South Africa, Australia, and England before bouncing back to beat two of those teams in the knockout stages to win the coveted trophy for the first-time ever.
Narendra Modi also appreciated them for tackling the trolls on social media with performances
Narendra Modi also appreciated them for tackling the trolls on social media after losing three matches in a row in the World Cup with performances on the field. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled their meeting from 2017 after losing the World Cup but now that she and the team have brought the trophy eight years later, they wish to join him for more of these meetings in the future.
Also, Pratika Rawal joined Team India to meet PM Modi in New Delhi in a leg brace after she celebrated the World Cup win on crutches in the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai a few days ago. In a mark of respect towards the efforts put up by the Indian players and support staff, the 75-year-old didn't touch the Women's World Cup trophy while posing for pictures during their meeting earlier today just like the Men's T20 World Cup trophy last year.
