Glenn Maxwell, the 36-year-old Australian batting all-rounder, has been a pillar of support for them for many years. He has been a reliable presence in the middle-order of Australia when the pressure is at peak. He has played a total of 124 T20I matches for the national team. However, almost every time he rises to the occasion and delivers the unthinkable, his body gives up.
Australia are currently gearing up to face New Zealand in a three-match T20I series which starts from tomorrow, October 1, 2025. However, ahead of the crucial series, Australia have faced a huge blow in their squad. Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the entire series against the Black Caps due to a freak injury suffered in the nets, replaced by Josh Philippe. It happened
when Maxwell was reportedly in preparation mode for the series, training with the ball in hand.
I saw Mitchell Owen smoked it and then the aftermath. It hit Maxi on the wrist: Matthew Short
When Glenn Maxwell bowled to Mitchell Owen, the latter sweetly hit the delivery with the bat, however, it was Maxwell’s wrist which came in the way of the ball. It led to the all-rounder suffering from a wrist fracture ahead of the home T20I series against New Zealand. Australian all-rounder Matthew Short spoke about Glenn Maxwell’s injury to cricket.com.au, and he said, "I saw (Mitchell Owen) smoked it and then the aftermath. It hit Maxi on the wrist. It didn't sound good. He is not the guy you want to be bowling to in T20 training, that's for sure."
He further added, "Maxi's been there and gone through [serious injuries] a couple of times now. He was a bit disappointed but it's just like any other injury. I'm sure he'll get through it." The all-rounder previously suffered a leg fracture in 2022 when a friend fell on it at a birthday party. It will be interesting to see if Glenn Maxwell can recover well and make a return in the team in the T20I series against India which starts in the later half of October.
