Chennai Super Kings never miss a chance to get into a banter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and their latest coaching staff announcement delivered peak banter. While welcoming back Albie Morkel as
assistant coach for the IPL 2027 season, CSK’s social media video showed a “Connecting to South Africa” loading screen with the IP address 464.626. Those numbers are not random but they are the exact sequence of runs Morkel smashed off Virat Kohli in the 19th over of a 2012 IPL match at Chepauk: 4, 6, 4, 6, 2, 6.

The context behind the match was CSK were needing 43 off the last two overs against RCB, Morkel walked in and turned the game on its head against the part-time bowling of a young Kohli. Three sixes and two fours later, the equation was down to 15 off the final over. CSK scraped home, and the moment has been brought up many times in the rivalry ever since. Kohli himself has joked about it over the years, and Morkel has recalled how surprised he was that RCB even gave the ball to Virat that night.

RCB fans hit back at CSK on social media with Old Memes after Albie Morkel banter
RCB supporters did not take the dig lightly and within hours, timelines filled with counter-clips and reminders of more recent damage. Fans dug up Tim David’s brutal 70 not out off just 25 balls (including eight sixes) against CSK in IPL 2026 at Chinnaswamy, where RCB posted 250 and won by 43 runs. The final over in particular against Jamie Overton, the right hand batter smashed 6, 2, 4, 6, 6, 6 and this was widely shared as the modern equivalent of Morkel’s mayhem.
thank you Tim David♥️ https://t.co/mlUrCfJOYy

Others paired it with Romario Shepherd’s earlier destruction of CSK bowling (a 53-run cameo off 14 balls in 2025) and posted side-by-side comparisons: “Yash Dayal 2024, Romario 2025, Tim David 2026.” Memes about “Connecting to Australia” with Tim David’s face, and captions like “CSK, never mess with RCB when we’re in this form” did the rounds. A few other posts from RCB fans took a dig at CSK fans for living in 2012 and made it clear the last few seasons have belonged to the red side in this fixture.
