Just days ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, the Indian cricket team has been handed a big setback in star batter Shubman Gill. Team India’s red-ball captain, who was recently seen leading India to 2-2
series draw against England in the UK, missed the quarter-finals of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025. The domestic cricket tournament, which commenced from August 28, saw Gill sit out due to illness.
However, not much was initially known of Gill’s availability, but the star Indian batter missed the quarter-finals despite being named the captain of the North Zone. Although, the side named his replacement for the tournament, with the Punjab batter down with a flu, he remains doubtful for the upcoming continental tournament.

While he recovers, several reports have stated that the Indian Test captain will report at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. If reports are to be believed, while his health shows no serious issues, he is set to begin training at the CoE later this week.
Apart from Gill, Dhruv Jurel, who was named the skipper of the Central Zone - also missed the quarter-finals due to a groin injury. Rajat Patidar, who was named his deputy, led the side. For the East Zone, they were without Abhimanyu Easwaran with Riyan Parag stepping up in the leadership role.
