Former India international and veteran of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin put down curtains to his illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL) career in August 2025, a decision which came just months after his international retirement.
With Ashwin ending his IPL career after 18 seasons, he is now set to explore other T20 leagues around the world.
However, there have been reports of Ashwin plying his trade in UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20) and Australia’s prestigious Big Bash League (BBL), new reports have claimed that he is in talks with four franchises. It is to be noted that Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg had earlier informed Cricbuzz that Ashwin was in talk with BBL. “To get someone with Ashwin’s credentials to come over here from the BBL will be great at so many levels. He’s a champion cricketer who will bring a lot to the Big Bash and to our cricket summer.”
R Ashwin in talks with four BBL franchises; to also play ILT20: Reports
But as per the recent reports, Ashwin has been talks with four BBL franchises. If reports are to be believed, four franchises in Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers have shown interest in Ashwin. Earlier, Ashwin also confirmed to have registered for ILT20 auction, thus portraying his interest to play in the UAE T20 league.
However a clarity on Ashwin’s participation is yet to be confirmed as the two league will be overlapping. The ILT20 2025 is expected to begin on December 2, the BBL starts December 14 and will be played until January 25, 2026. But as far as it is concerned, Ashwin will ply his trade for India in Hong Kong Sixes, scheduled to be played from November 7 to 9.
